Beaches
The nearest beaches to our apartment, only 5 minutes away, are those of Muchavista and El Campello with its watchtower built in 1554 in the Fisherman's Quarter, San Juan where at Cabo de las Huertes, you can also snorkel and scuba dive off the rocks.
The beaches are undoubtedly one of the areas strong points. Alicantes mild climate makes beach-life feasible practically all year round.
El Campello
If you want to enjoy the beach and some peace and quiet, then El Campello is an excellent place to visit as it doesn't have a lot of the usual effects of mass tourism. Nevertheless all of the usual tourist facilities are within easy reach.
The Paseo del Mar, or promenade, is almost 2 miles long and makes for a lovely evening stroll in the setting sun; during the day, take advantage of the beaches and sea. There is a huge choice of authentic Spanish restaurants and bars, all serving delicious meals or tapas. The El Campello Marina sits at one end of the bay, offering both a lively fish market and a selection of sumptuous restaurants.
Alicante
The city of Alicante is the capital of the region and offers a wealth of cultural activities and fine beaches and is just 10 kilometres from our villa in Bonalba.
The Castle of Santa Barbara that sits atop the Benacantil Mountain dominates the skyline of Alicante . Originally built by the Moors, it offers breathtaking views down over the marinas and beaches of the city. Improvements to the defences were made by consecutive invaders, so today’s well-preserved remains are something of a wonderful pastiche of historical architecture that are well worth a closer look.
Just a few kilometres off the Alicante coast lays the island of Tabarca . Though small, the unspoilt beauty of the beaches and the clear waters that surround it have made Tabarca an idyllic swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving destination, and therefore a superb half- or full-day excursion for those looking for some peace and quiet among truly beautiful natural scenery.
Aqualandia
Aqualandia offers delightful surroundings and all the fun a multitude of water rides can offer. This is a modern water park, with trained staff and excellent facilities, including picnic areas and a variety of restaurants.
